Market Entry and Exit: How Traders Can Plan Better Entries and Exits
Why Exits Matter Just as Much as Entries
Many traders spend 95% of their energy searching for the "perfect" entry signal, yet neglect what happens once they are in the trade. A complete trading plan must answer three questions before pressing buy or sell:
- Where will I enter? (Trigger condition & confirmation)
- Where will I exit if I am wrong? (Stop-loss & invalidation)
- Where will I exit if I am right? (Target & profit-taking plan)
Managing Exits Systematically
Exit When the Trade Idea Is Invalidation: Your stop-loss is placed beyond the structural level that proves your thesis wrong. Never widen it out of fear. Exit When Planned Objective Is Reached: Take profit at previous key swing levels or major liquidity pools. Avoid moving targets further away due to sudden greed. Partial Exits & Trailing Stops: Securing partial profits at a 1:2 risk-reward level and moving stop-loss to breakeven can reduce psychological pressure while allowing a runner to capture extended trend legs.Summary Formula
Setup → Entry → Stop-Loss → Position Size → Target → Exit → Journal
